Mr. Randy Case, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP

From 1981 to present Mr. Case has been in private practice in Battle Creek. Michigan. Architecture + design is located in the rehabilitated historic building of Potter Block Properties LLC that Mr. Case has owned since 1984.
His experience has included preservation and adaptive reuse of prominent buildings in the state of Michigan. He received SWMI AIA Chapter Honor Awards for the adaptive reuse of the historic Grand Trunk Depot as headquarters of the Community Action Agency of South Central Michigan, the Michigan Central Depot as Clara's on the River Restaurant , BC Unlimited Downtown Partnership rehabilitation, the Honolulu House in Marshall, Michigan, as well as others. He received an Excellence in Design Award from the Masonry Institute of Michigan for the Willard Beach Bathhouse for the City of Battle Creek and the Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce awarded him the Small Business of the Year Award.

Presentations have included being a featured speaker at the Michigan Historic Preservation Network, fall and spring conferences. Topics have included building assessmments, utilizing Historic Rehabliltation tax credits, interpretation of the Secretary of the standards of rehabilitaion amog others. These conferences are sponsored by the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office and used as training for preservationists and Historic District Commission members across the state. He has also worked with the Anthropology Department at Western Michigan University to test remote sensing technologies for research with historic structures. Dr. Michael Nassaney published his research from this study and was asked to present it at a world wide conference in Great Britain.

Randy is deeply committed to contributing to the quality of life in his city and is involved in a wide range of organizations. He served as chairman of the Historic District Commission for 8 years, founded the Preservation Action Alliance, is Rotary President, and is American Business Club past President and is past president of Heritage Battle Creek. He is past president of AIA Michigan and AIA Southwest Michigan and is a member of the board of the Michigan Historic Preservation Network.

As president of AIA Michigan his focus was "Communities by Design" and created that focus committee. He has spoken state wide collaborating with the arts community and Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs (MCACA) to focus on Governor Granholm's Cool Cities initiatives. He was instrumental in creation of Context Sensitive Solutions methodology that the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) now uses as their primary interface with communities they work with. He also created and co chaired the first Environmental Preservation Conference in Michigan before "green building" and "sustainability" were standards of the industry. Randy has worked in Guatemala for the past 5 years helping to teach and learn sustainable design with native cultures in the remote mountain ranges.
